"My Journey to Becoming a Loyal Customer of West Islip Opticians (Since 2003) Before 2003, I visited multiple eyewear stores. Here are my experiences with various opticians: 1-2. Cohen’s Fashion Optical At Cohen's Fashion Optical, I was told, “We do not go beyond astigmatic strength #2.” On another visit, I was told, “You have to allow up to a week for your eyes to adjust to the new script.” The new script caused noticeable blurry vision, and I was confident the lens rotation was incorrect. I was advised to wait a week for adjustment, but I insisted something was off. The lenses were eventually adjusted, and the improvement was immediate. 2. Davis Vision At Davis Vision, the optician stated: “I just had an 80-year-old woman tell me the same thing.” The exam room was dark, and the projected eye chart was dimly lit. I experienced what felt like transient “tunnel vision” or dimming due to the low-light conditions, which made visual clarity difficult to assess. 3. LensCrafters At LensCrafters, I was looking for eyeglass frames similar to John Lennon’s 42mm style. The optician stated, “We have women’s styles over here,” and repeated it twice with a noticeable smirk. The interaction made me feel uncomfortable, and the tone stood out more than the actual product guidance. 4. JCPenney Optical 5. They simply did not have any frames I liked. 6. Target Optical The experience felt dismissive. When I was told the optometrist was not in, there was no attempt to schedule an appointment—only that I could come back the next day. On another visit, I asked about a specific frame brand and was told they did not carry it, with no alternatives offered. West Islip Opticians After these experiences, I was referred to West Islip Opticians by my mother, who spoke highly of their service. I was greeted by Bill, the optician, with genuine care and attention. He took time to explain options clearly and ensure proper fit and alignment. Over time, I also visited America’s Best Contacts & Eyeglasses to compare digital phoropters. While prescriptions were similar, I described my vision as feeling like I was looking “underwater.” The response initially suggested misunderstanding, but it was later realized the device had not been properly adjusted. Bill explained the difference between digital and mechanical phoropters, noting that a skilled optician using a mechanical system can fine-tune prescriptions more precisely. Takeaway What keeps me returning to West Islip Opticians is their attention to detail, accuracy, and customer care. Bill takes the time to explain prescriptions, lens options, and even technical aspects like coatings and lens materials in a way that builds trust. I consistently receive clear vision—at one point achieving 20/15 clarity—and appreciate the level of precision and service that sets them apart. West Islip Opticians remains my trusted provider for eyewear and vision care. Bill the Optician stated that there is a new optometrist who is OCD when it comes to being detail-oriented about customers’ eyewear prescriptions, and that anything less than optimal is unacceptable. I will post another review after my appointment with the new optometrist."

"Excellent service. Good prices and he is a genuinely very nice person. Also very fast, wish I went here instead of more corporate eyedoctors when I was younger."
